New Ship Gives Carnival the “Freedom” to Sail the Greek Isles

As Carnival’s new ship “Freedom” prepares to launch in March 2007, she will bring with her a new era for Carnival. Previously missing Europe from its list of itineraries until the launch of “Liberty” in 2005, Carnival now sails the Mediterranean. With the addition of “Freedom,” Carnival will venture on its first visit to the Greek Isles as well.

Extensive tours whisk passengers away for 12-day cruises with seven ports each. Filled with history, art, architecture and scrumptious food, guests can elect a Greek Isles tour that makes a figure eight through the region. Ports include Naples, Italy; Rhodes, Greece; Izmir and Istanbul, Turkey; Athens and Katakolon, Greece and Livorno, Italy.

For those interested in the Mediterranean, a 12-day coastline tour is available, stopping in Naples and Venice, Italy; Dubrovnik, Croatia; Messina, Sicily; Barcelona, Spain; Cannes, France and Livorno, Italy.

Decades Through the Ages

Joe Farcus, Carnival’s ship architect, wanted to step back (and forward) in time, so he took his inspiration from various decades of the past and one decade yet to come. The public areas of “Freedom” each represent a particular era of time. The nine-story Millennium Atrium looks forward to the decade, starting with 2010, with lots of curves, cylindrical forms, stainless steel and glass. Here you’ll find special entertainment, including string quartets, jazz musicians, pianists and more.

Other impressive areas of the ship include the Victorian Show Lounge, named after British Queen Victoria. The ornate molding, marble and gold leaf give the distinct feeling that you’re in an 1800s London theatre. The Sun King Supper Club adorns a fabulous theme accredited to Louis XIV and the glorious 18th century complete with massive chandelier and skylight dome. From Studio 70 Dance Club (with its disco theme) to Babylon Casino (taken from 1000 B.C.), passengers will find interesting twists at every turn.

You Choose When & How You Dine

As with all Carnival ships, you choose when and how you dine. From the elegant sophistication of the main dining room featuring signature selections from Chef George Blanc to intimate reservations-only dining to midnight buffets and 24-hour pizza, you’ll find fresh, delightful dishes every member of your family will love.

Accommodations

From economical interior cabins to elaborate verandah suites, accommodations onboard “Freedom” include TV, radio, telephone, wall safe, hair dryer and minibar/refrigerator. Sixty percent of “Freedom’s” staterooms are ocean view, and of those, 60% have balconies giving you the best views on the ship.

For those seeking more space and luxury, suites and demi-suites offer two to three times the square footage along with large balconies complete with patio furniture, spacious living rooms, vanity/dressing areas and whirlpool tubs.

Kids Love It, Too!

Because families need activities that appeal to everyone, “Freedom” offers extensive activities for kids and teens. From the indoor/outdoor pool with sliding sky dome and 250′ waterslide to cookie decorating and teen-only dances, kids will find age-appropriate activities in five age groups. There’s even a teen club with dance floor, coffee bar and video games.

Of course, our entire children’s and youth staff is trained and attentive to be sure your children have a fabulous time in a safe, secure environment.

The entire family can meet back up to watch movies, sporting events or concerts on the outdoor 12-foot high movie screen, the Seaside Theater.

For those who want affordable cruising that still offers luxury and style, look for the launch of “Freedom” in March 2007.

Dreaming of a Cruise Vacation? A Tropical Getaway is Closer than you Think

Dreaming of a Cruise Vacation? A Tropical Getaway is Closer than you Think

When the weather outside makes you want to pull the covers back over your head in the morning, it’s time to think about getting away. How does a week with first-class service, fine dining and exotic locales sound? It sounds just like a cruise to a tropical getaway.

Some people spend months planning their vacations – where to stay, where to dine, sites to see. One advantage of a cruise vacation is that all the planning is done for you. You pick the area of the ocean that you want to visit and then you let the cruise line work out the details for you. And even better, the cost of many cruises – which includes food and accommodations – is less than you would pay for many accommodations on dry land.
The biggest decision you need to make is deciding where to go and how many days you want to be at sea. Will it be the Bahamas, the Caribbean, Mexico, the Mediterranean or a river cruise in Europe? Once you are on board, you will need to decide which of the many onboard restaurants to frequent and which of the nightclubs to check out, but that’s where the decision making ends.

Bahamas

You can cruise to the Bahamas for three, four or even seven nights, depending on where you board. Ships leave regularly from New York City, Baltimore and Miami. Pick the port closest to where you live and head for the sun and fun.

You can take a three-night cruise aboard the Royal Caribbean’s Majesty of the Seas at prices starting at just 5 (per person and based on double occupancy). You will leave Miami and travel to CocoCay, Nassau. CocoCay is an island reserved just for Royal Caribbean guests. You will not find any shops, but you will have your choice of water activities – snorkeling, wave runners or just relaxing in a hammock by the beach.

If you are looking for more time away, consider a seven-night cruise at prices starting at 9 per person. Norwegian Cruise Line’s Norwegian Jewel leaves New York and stops in Port Canaveral for a day of sight-seeing in Orlando, Florida, before continuing on to Great Stirrup Cay and Nassau, Bahamas.

The Caribbean

Choose from cruises to the Western Caribbean, the home of Jamaica; the Eastern Caribbean, home of St. Thomas; or the Southern Caribbean, home of the saints: St. Croix, St. John’s and St. George’s.
A five-night cruise to the Western Caribbean starts in Miami and heads south to Ocho Rios in Jamaica and Grand Cayman Islands – all at prices starting at 9 a person. Travel is aboard the revitalized Celebrity Century with its 314 new private verandas, 14 new Sky Suites and 174 new concierge class staterooms.

A seven night cruise to the Western Caribbean leaves Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, and includes stops in Key West, Florida, Ocho Rios, Georgetown and Cozumel, Mexico. Prices start at 9 a person.

If you are interested in the Eastern Caribbean, take a seven-night cruise aboard Royal Caribbean’s Liberty of the Seas. Leaving from Miami, the ship travels to Philipsburg in St. Maarten, San Juan in Puerto Rico and Labadee, a private island in Haiti that is leased to the cruise line. The island is completely populated by tourists and those who are there to serve them. It is guarded by a private security force. The per-person price for this seven-night getaway starts around 0 per person.

Another option in the Eastern Caribbean is a seven-night adventure that leaves Ft. Lauderdale for stops in Grand Turk, San Juan, St. Thomas and Half Moon Cay, rated as the best private island by Porthole Cruise Magazine. With just 2 percent of the island developed, this 55-acre spot is home to an international bird sanctuary. You will be traveling aboard Holland America’s Eurodam at prices starting around 0 per person.

Mexico

Whether you leave out of Los Angeles or San Diego, you will want a seven-day cruise to Mexico. Starting around 0 a person, you can stay aboard Princess Cruises’ Sapphire Princess. The trip features stops in Puerto Vallarta, Mazatlan and Cabo San Lucas. It offers 740 staterooms with balconies, a casino and 24-hour dining. And for something unique, the Sapphire Princess is home to the Hearts and Minds wedding chapel – the cruise industry’s only wedding-at-sea program. If you want to have a ship’s captain perform your wedding ceremony, this is the ship for you.

Prefer the Mexican Riviera? Take a seven-night cruise aboard Holland America Line’s Oosterdam. Starting from San Diego, you will visit Mexico’s best ports of call: Mazatlan, Puerto Vallarta and Cabo San Lucas. When you first go onboard, take a look at the ship’s centerpiece: a magnificent Waterford crystal globe displayed in a three-story atrium. You will never forget it.

So if you’ve been thinking that cruises are just too expensive, think again. All inclusive packages can be found at prices to fit any traveler’s budget. Find your dream cruise now and bon voyage!

Playful Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1945 Jackpot Tourbillon

Playful Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1945 Jackpot Tourbillon

Really a big surprise when I firstly saw the watch. It is the Girard-Perregaux Vintage 1945 Jackpot Tourbillon which is totally unique compared to other timepieces. In fact, it is really a part of fun.

Who thought that the precision of the greatest watchmaking complications could never harmonize with the uncertainty of games of chance? The delicate watch successfully merges these two worlds in one exclusive model of unexpected complexity. It combines a tourbillon movement with a slot machine operated by pulling the handle on the right of the case. This very original idea is both technically impressive and playful. I guess it should be the first time, a watch combines a Tourbillon and a slot machine equipped with a striking mechanism in perfect proportion with the Vintage 1945 case and it must be a brand new milestone for Girard-Perregaux.

Description:
White gold case
Dimensions: 43.00 x 43.95 mm
Height: 17.30 mm
Crystal: antireflective sapphire
Case-back: sapphire crystal secured by four screws
Water resistance: 30 meters

Movement: GPFAY08, manual
Caliber: 38.60 x 32.60 mm
Frequency: 21,600 vib/h (3 Hz)
Jewels: 38
Power reserve: min. 96 hours
Functions: tourbillon, hour, minute, slot machine with chime mechanism, small second on the tourbillon
Alligator strap with folding buckle

Let’s take a good look at the Slot machine mechanism. It is inspired from the first mechanical slot machine, the famous “Liberty Bell” which is invented at the end of the 19th century by Charles August Fay and so named with reference to the independence of the United States of America.

The handle on the side of the case is connected to a rack. By pulling the handle, the rack slides up. When the rack reaches its highest point, and only then (a so called “all or nothing mechanism”), it starts the reels spinning and slowly slides back down. When it has returned approximately two thirds of the way, it activates stoppers, which stop the reels one by one and synchronically activates the striking mechanism.

Despite the complexity of the mechanism, the Vintage 1945 Jackpot Tourbillon is very legible and easy to operate. On the dial, a window at 12 o’clock reveals a row of three symbols, while a cut-out at 6 o’clock lets one admire the Tourbillon with gold Bridge. By pulling the lever on the right side of the case, the three reels spin and then stop randomly on one of the possible five symbols, while a hammer strikes a gong, producing the chime reminiscent of the gaming machines in a casino. Out of the 125 combinations, only one represents the jackpot: the three bells in a row.

Inflation And The Peaking Of The American Empire

Inflation And The Peaking Of The American Empire

Inflation And The Peaking Of The American Empire

How Did The U.S. Empire Get The Tribute It Deserved As The World’s Main Empire For The Last 100 Plus Years?

By Delwyn Lounsbury – THE DEFLATION GURU

I ask this question all the time and never get the right answer. So, here goes.

Rome was an empire. Rome at it’s peak had conquered all its neighbors. Empires could demand and get tribute from those it had vanquished in the form of gold, grain, slaves, spices, silk, olive oil, wine, wild animals for the coliseum blood sports etc. The United States of America has been the main empire in the world for the past 100 plus years. We have 725 military bases around the world. So, don’t tell me otherwise.

What, how and why did the get our tribute we were due? Tribute is a Roman word for pay as an acknowledgment of subjugation, for protection from invasion, etc. We ruled the seas, the air, the markets. We were strong. We were and still are the policeman of the world. That was a big part of the reason Rome fell, by the way. They spent all their money trying to police their empire. We are rich. Wall Street ruled the world markets for years. Business across the land flourished. We had natural resources (gold, iron, coal) and fertile farm land. We deserved it and I say we got tribute. In spades!

How? We lived the high life all these 100 years and exported our inflation to other nations. Yes, the rest of the world had to take our rotten fiat paper money that was consistently losing value. The U.S. dollar of 1913 is now worth only 4 cents thanks to inflation caused by the combination of the Federal Reserve watering down the money and excess government spending. The politicians wanted inflation so they could spend more and pay back later in dollars worth less. What a musical chairs- casino-Ponzi scheme! We made out like bandits. Other countries had to take our stinking paper money that was losing 5% per year in value some years. They had to choke on it. While we lived high on the hog. We exported our inflation to other countries. We ripped off the whole world with our made-up monopoly money. No wonder other countries hate us.

95% of all U.S. paper money ever printed is in other nations. There is a huge market hedging interest rate risk on our dollars in Europe. It’s a debt instrument on the commodity exchange called Euro dollars – not the Euro currency. Total open interest 8/6/2010 was a whopping – ,830,000,000,000.

Our empire is ending. The GREATER DEPRESSION started in year 2000 with the dot com stock market peak and may not bottom until 2016 -2018. China will be the next empire. You can plan on big time 90% drops in prices of real estate, stocks, corporate and municipal bonds, commodities (yes, gold and especially silver, palladium and platinum since the are all industrial metals may lose half) and antiques/art/collectable items in the deflation economy.. This will be a nightmare. I expect “Antiques Roadshow” to go off the air. You can’t eat that stuff. I was watching it the other night and someone on the program said prices were down by 33% in some areas of collecting and the value ranges they give are getting wider.

We are firm believers in Robert Prechter’s Elliott Wave Principle and analysis. How markets and indeed all nature appears to work. Socionomics is his new joining of sociology and economics in relation to mans mood swings from positive to negative and someday back to positive. For now, Prechter sees societal mood waning (getting more pessimistic) until 2016 – 2018. He says the effect on investment markets will be disastrous due to the fact that man is a herd animal and always buys more at the top – right when he should be selling. Just think real estate in 2006.

Prechter has found it is better to be a contrarian investor. When the direction of the long wave cycle changes to a deflation economy, the GREATER DEPRESSION is not far behind. Robert Prechter says most assets could drop by 90 percent and unemployment may eclipse 30% in 2016 – 2018. Get cash and T Bills. Cash will be KING! The Anglo financial power elite have most of their money in U.S. assets. They don’t want the dollar to lose any more value. The money they lent out would be worthless. The dollar will be strong. It’s the reserve currency of the world for god sake. Inflation is dead for the time being.

The same thing happened in the 1930′s. Inflation in the Roaring 20′s led to banker’s fear of lending. This caused a severe recession. Then misguided and crippling government intervention and regulation by the President Franklin Roosevelt administration caused a long depression.

The question now is will the U.S. dollar continue to lose value due to inflation or will the deflation put a stop to the free ride. I say the next 5 to 10 years we will have the Greater Deflation. It will be three times larger and longer than the 1930′s depression. Unless we get a private run gold money system all bets are off after that. Only gold backed private money can keep governments honest. Gold is not someone else’s debt! How great would that be. No gold – no spending. Otherwise we get inflation and maybe even hyperinflation as governments worldwide go on another spending orgy to mistakenly try Keynesian government spending programs again.

Speaking of orgy. Why did Rome fall? Here is why. They were debasing (inflating) their money. Caesar would have the coins shaved down in size and keep the profit. Now days, customarily, coins are made with little ribs on the outer edge to prevent the practice. There is no precious metal in them anymore, however.

Back then people would also keep the larger coins and spend the smaller ones. One of the first instances of Gresham’s Law in economics. Specifically, bad money drives good money out of circulation. Most U.S. silver coins before 1965 were 90% silver and you won’t find any in your change. Since 1965, U.S. coins have had no silver in them. Remarkably, Gresham’s Law happened again with the pre 1982 copper penny. No copper in the new penny. It’s actually zinc with a thin copper clad. None of the old ones circulate. Anyway, then to finance Rome’s profligate ways (policeman of the world, over spending, corruption and moral turpitude just like today) Caesar took to melting and debasing all the coins with a mix of cheap copper.

Roman bread giveaways and a gladiator circus for the masses down at the coliseum have morphed into today’s Food Stamps, mindless TV programing, electronic gaming and a spendthrift welfare state. A weak Rome collapsed and was sacked by the barbarians. Not many know Roman Emperor Constantine kept the gold florin coin honest when he moved the seat of the Roman Empire to Constantinople (now Istanbul, Turkey). That part of the empire lasted anther 500 years until it fell to the Moors.

With Socialism ruling the world under the likes of President Barack Hussein Obama, a one-world-government/new-world-order “Big Brother” world may be in the cards. Stand up for LIBERTY and FREEDOM and FREE MARKETS now, or you will be told what to do, where to work and what to think. Inflation opens the door to demigods.

That’s my tribute to tribute.Copyright 2010 – Delwyn Lounsbury Reprint rights allowed with attribution back to http://www.deflationeconomy.comNo not the Roman kind of tribute the American kind – silly!

Casino Slot Machines: Then and Now

April 20th, 2011 No comments

Casino Slot Machines: Then and Now

Before speaking about slots let’s see when the first gambling machine appeared. Be aware that a gambling machine and a slot machine isn’t the same. So, the first gambling machine appeared in the 19th century and it was invented by Sittman and Pitt. In fact, it was like video poker as there were used playing face cards as symbols and the payout depended on poker hands. But if you had played then you wouldn’t have got money in the case of a win. Your win would have been food or drinks from the bar in which the gambling machine was situated. A little later there appeared the first slot machine, which was based on the same principle.

Nearly everybody knows what a slot is. Even if you have never played slots you have seen them for sure. Nowadays slots are an integral part of all modern casinos. Gamblers take slots for granted, millions of people play slots, but very few know when they were invented and who was the inventor.

All slots at modern casinos are based on the construction, which was invented by Charles Fey in 1887. The first slot consisted of three mechanically spinning reels. Every reel had ten sections with different pictures on them. If three equal pictures come out at the same time it was a win. In 1889 there appeared slots, which gave an opportunity to win the jackpot. Then the jackpot was paid when the total weight of all coins in a slot machine ran up to a certain edge. But slots of this kind didn’t exist for a long time, as they didn’t make a profit for slot owners as players found a way out. It was enough to punch a playing machine and the coins came out. The next version of the game was much simpler. There were three sections (or slots) inside of a playing machine. When a player made a bet to play a slot the coin fell in one of the 3 sections. One of the sections was a winning section. If the coin fell in a winning section a player got three coins back. Later slots became more and more popular. For example, there were up to 2000 slot machines only in San Francisco. In 1895 there was invented a slot machine, on which all modern slots are based. Fey’s slot was called “Liberty Bell”. The slot consisted of three parallel discs with numbers on them. A player pulled the lever, which made the discs reel. A certain number combination was a winning combination. Then the combination of numbers “4-11-44” was a winning combination.

There were a lot of disputes about slots and their right for existence. In the 20th century they were forbidden in the USA. As a result there appeared so-called “Liberty Bell Gum Fruit” slots. The principle was the same, but people used these machines for buying a bubble gum and with the bubble gum they got an opportunity to win money, they were given a spin. The symbols were different fruits, the most popular tastes of a chewing gum. That’s why these machines were called “fruit machines”. And still a lot of slots have the same symbols. Moreover, the BAR symbol, which still exists as a wild symbol, came from those slot machines.

Other slot machines were an electro-mechanical slot machine “Money Honey”, which appeared in 1964 and “Dollar Slot Machine”, which appeared in 1970. Later in 1980 the first video poker slot machine was invented. You can see yourself that the development of slots is very fast and the main reason of it is their popularity.

Of course the modern slots are different. There is no lever to pull, it is enough to push the button, there are no mechanical reels, and you can see everything on the screen. The computer will do everything for you, you just make bets you want and push the button. The choice of slots is very wide. Everybody will be able to find something to his liking. There are different wild and scatter symbols, different bonuses and bonus rounds, and the jackpots are also different. You are only to make a choice!

The slot machines have been existing for about 120 years and one can find them nearly everywhere: at casinos, cafes, different stores and even at online casinos, which give you an opportunity to play your favorite slots at home!

HYIP stands for High Yield Investment Program and is referred to as HYIP, which is a range or category of investment vehicles. However the HYIP I am referring to here is the online HYIP industry specifically, just to be clear from the start.High Yield Investment Programs offer much higher returns than normal investment schemes usually varying between 5% up to 200% a month. It is also very risky, remember the higher the gains the higher the risk. HYIPs use e-currency and processors such as liberty reserve, perfectmoney. Main feature of all these is that the transactions are irreversible so think twice before authorising one. All HYIPs will claim your investments are guaranteed and in safe hands, do not be fooled and take nothing for granted. These HYIP programs claim to make their money through various activities such as forex trading, sport betting or precious metals trading. In reality it is safe to say that most of these claims are lies and that once people stop investing in a certain HYIP it will collapse and become scam and stop paying its members. Although not all of online HYIPs are ponzis but one must adopt such mentality to survive this risky area.Although HYIPS are very risky and almost ponzis in their entirety, they still attract many investors savvy and novice alike, but why? For a start anyone can invest there are no barriers, A investment will be sufficient since You don’t need huge sums like many investment opportunities you may find in your local bank or stock broker. HYIPs depend on the human greed factor advertising potential gains with riskiest settings over a short period of time and sell you the idea. In most cases the HYIP’s lifeline will depend on their ability to recruit new members and injection of new money, which is why they really try their best to get your investment money.

In conclusion the HYIP investment field can indeed be a profitable one but will require self-discipline to track and manage the little details, watch out for raised red flags and take action when needed to hedge losses and secure winnings. Most importantly the due diligence before the investment is absolutely crucial. Basically you are trying to make sure you have done everything in your power to ensure as much as possible the safety of your own money. It is your responsibility to do so not anybody else. If due diligence is a role you are not willing to perform then you have two options, Either gamble away your money in a casino or lottery because without due diligence that is exactly what your doing throwing away your money, or let the money in your bank till you accumulate enough of it to venture with a standard investment.Perhaps I will look at how to perform due diligence in more detail in another article.
